I keep showing up for myself

You might have seen my post on Instagram about the nice reminder I got on how important it is to "show up for yourself” , maybe you’re not using social media… so I’d like to share my thoughts in this blog post and add on to it.

Last Saturday I woke up at 7:25. Usually I love to stay in bed for some time and have my cappucchino in bed. After a week of bad sleep, this night was actually great, but I still felt tired, irritated, noticed a lot of tension in the body and a clouded heavy mind.

I decided to get some really needed me-time, before we leave for our planned family-weekend trip. So I asked Daniel to take care of our little boy which of course he did. He went to the playground with him, so that I really had some quiet time alone.

I started with my quick morning routine (see more about my routine here) before I turned on my phone. The first thing I saw was, that there‘s a new class online - a scorpion flow. I instantly got excited, THAT was actually just what I needed.

I haven‘t practice scorpion for a while and wasn‘t sure if I could find enough inner strength, balance and energy to go for that. I tried…. I went through the whole flow and ended with two rounds of scorpion pose before the cool down.

I felt energized, at ease and very clear minded after that… I love the energizing yet calming effect of the practice. And the effect that inversions have on me.

This was such a great reminder on how important it is to sometimes change plans and show up for myself. Here in the form of me-time, self-care and movement. So one of my intentions that I keep repeating to myself is: I keep showing up for myself.

Showing up for yourself comes in many forms, here some examples:

  • It can be doing the right thing even if you don’t have the time or don‘t want to do it.

  • It can be honoring yourself for where you‘re at.

  • Resting when you need it, even if there’s a million things to do.

  • It can be speaking up for yourself when you are too scared, or usually would hold back.

  • It means being there for yourself when you need yourself the most.

Showing up for yourself can be hard at times but when you push past the excuses, expectations, fear, or self-doubt, you actually grow into a stronger person that has way more to give.

Because we can’t pour from an empty cup. Or an other saying: In order to help others, we first need to fill our own cup. We need to be well ourselves, to have the strength and energy to give what's overflowing to those around us.

How do you show up for yourself today?
