Full & Deep Yoga Practice @Yoga Scheune Meilen
Sunday, July 3rd 11:00 - 14:00
After practicing yoga for a while, many of us may wonder if there's more to it than what we do on that mat; and of course, there is.
While all the stretching, strengthening, twisting and balancing is very beneficial, and certainly opens the gateways to a healthier, more vibrant and ‘alive’ sense of being, it is just one branch on a very big tree of yoga.
According to the Yoga Sutras (which is like the bible of yoga), there are eight ‘limbs’, each describing a different aspect of the yoga practice, and a different step on the ladder to enlightenment or realization. These are commonly known as the ‘Eight Limbs of Yoga’.
In this class we will discuss these “Eight limbs” of yoga, and get to know more about the “Yamas” which is the first limb on the yoga path. The Yamas & Niyamas (Niyamas is the second limb) are often seen as “moral codes”, or ways of “right living”. They really form the foundation of our practice, and honoring these ethics as we progress along ‘the path’ means we’re always being mindful of each action, and therefore cultivating a more present and aware state of being.
So, before getting on to our mats to practice, we will explore a little piece of the Philosophy of Yoga, the Yamas. Taking then, these learnings into our practice and explore the yamas in action through the asana practice, in a beautiful Vinyasa Flow. We will end the class with the practice of Pranayama and different pre-steps to Meditation which form the fourth, fifth and sixth limb of the eight limbs.
This class is suitable for everyone who has done yoga before (beginners to advanced) and want to get to know more about the yoga path and yoga lifestyle.
Even if you have studied the Yamas before, this could be a great opportunity to review and check in again with each of them. Because just as the world around us is in a constant change, so are we. With that, we might find different and new ways to work with the Yamas according to what we are experiencing right now in our life.
